IGNITING THE EXPLORER IN US ALL

WE ARE
AN IMPACT DRIVEN
RESEARCH
COLLECTIVE

Amor Mundi. We are in love with the world. Yet as a society, we are in a tremendous transition on multiple levels simultaneously. All our existing systems need re-adjustment, re-alignment, or even re-design to become more re-generative by nature. It is no wonder that we are such experiencing complexity, volatility, uncertainty and ambiguity. We have a responsibility towards ourselves as global society, nature ánd future generations. That goes for any individual, group, team ánd organization.

For us this grand challenge of the 21st century also feels as the greatest opportunity to make a real fundamental shift in the good direction. To have a genuine impact on the future, together. To create True Future Value.

This re-design is complex but not impossible, it is difficult but not undoable. But we have to think out the box, we have to train ourselves to think in the system as a whole, a more integral approach. Once we start to see the superstructure of change we can find the elementary particle as we like to call it, the essence, the smallest possible intervention hat can make a system shift as a whole. This requires a 21st-century mindset, toolset and skillset.

Our aim is to turn the world into an extended 'classroom'. To learn from the many perspectives our world has to offer. To ignite the explorative mindset in us all. An inquisitive, designedly and entrepreneurial spirit to go out there, look, listen, experiment, think, learn and share. Continuously we are wandering and wondering to learn about new perspectives. Hence the central question for us is: What Would X Do?

We are a living lab for creative rebels and facilitators of change who want to boost their impact and help redesign a world so that it works better for all of us. Over two decades of research and fieldwork has brought us to the current version of our organization, 'Project Jingu 4.0’. At this moment we are intensively experimenting with the new DAO concept, an operating model that helps us connect with other communities, to unleash all the talent available and to build a sustainable business based on co-ownership. The Future academy is a living Lab. We like to learn and practice what we preach.  As a group, we continuously experiment with new operating models. At this moment we are designing everything around the concept of a Decentralised Autonomous Organisation.

The DAO concept is derived from the blockchain with some very interesting principles to collaborate and unleash talent and know-how in a large community. We recognize a bit of Agile, a bit of Sociocracy, and Semco style in this approach.

Especially the way of decision-making, sharing ownership, and distribution of revenues via smart contracts are focus areas. Interested? We love to share our experiences. Both the good, the bad, and the ugly.

A PLEDGE FOR PURPOSE

As a boutique with so much experience, talent, connections & resources, it feels a waste to not take a more firm position on having a positive contribution towards the 21st century.

Doing no-evil or being net-positive is simply not enough. For this reason, we took a pledge for purpose stating that we will only take on projects that contribute to our strive for positive change & impact.

In this video (Dutch) we share our own journey and how we have become more aware ourselves!

As a living lab we research through development. One of our guiding principles to keep a fresh perspective on things - while also nurturing our culture and values - is the Jingu Principle.

Ise Jingu is an ancient temple in Japan. The community surrounding this important shrine is deconstructing and reconstructing the entire temple every 20 years. Via this ritual the quality of the temple is maintained but more important, all the essential craftsmanships related to the building of a shrine are embedded within the community and its generations.

Every 5 years we have done exactly the same with our team and organization, to keep the entrepreneurial spirit, the curiosity, and the reflection of what really matters to us, our clients and society at large. Here is an interview on generation 1.0-3.0. Now we are in 4.0.

THE JINGU PRINCIPLE

WHY DO WE DO WHAT WE DO?

THE WORLD IS OUR CLASSROOM

Philosopher Hannah Arendt described in her 'Amor Mundi' how we as human beings should love the world first, with everything in it, before we can love ourselves. As the Futures Academy we embrace that notion to treat the entire world as one gigantic classroom.

Everything around us has some kind of design, a way of working, organizing itself, some role, intent of purpose in a larger system. It takes an inquisitive mindset to explore all these different dimensions, to study how they operate and to transfer lessons learned to other situations. In short, to see the design principles of life.

For this reason for us it all starts with questions like, what would a bacteria do? What would a tribe do? What would a craftsman do? What would an artist do? What would a wolf do? Hence, the question that triggers our designerly, inquisiie and entrepreneural spirit: What would X do?
